MCP Installation
One-click install for MCPB-aware agents (e.g., Claude Desktop)
If you are using Anthropic's Claude Desktop, Microsoft's native MCP for Windows or any other MCPB-aware agent:
Then follow the setup instructions, including giving the MCP an API token that gives it access to Centra.
Terminal-based installation option for other agents
If you want to use Centra MCP as part of your coding setup, including with Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, or with an agent that does not support one-click MCPB, we recommend installing through Homebrew. It works with macOS, Linux and WSL.
If you don't have Homebrew installed, install it first — see brew.sh.
Then type in the terminal:
brew trust --tap centrahq/centra-mcp
brew install centrahq/centra-mcp/centra-mcp
Once you get the message that Centra MCP is installed, open the interface for configuring it by typing:
centra-mcp gui
It will ask you for an access token.
First step after installing: Connect your agent to Centra
Once Centra MCP is installed it will ask you which Centra environment to connect to and for an Integration API access token.
In Centra AMS → System → API Tokens:
- Create a new Integration dedicated to this Centra MCP installation. Do not reuse the token from another system or another Centra MCP install.
- Grant the token only the permission scopes you want the agent to have — the scopes decide exactly which tools the agent can and cannot use.
Start with a token that grants limited read-only access to a non-production environment without any sensitive data at all. You can add additional tokens for other environments later.
Once Centra MCP is configured your agent should have access to Centra. Just ask it in human language:
Can you access Centra?
If it can't access Centra, ask it to help you figure out what is wrong.
Once connected: Getting going with Agentic Operations
Centra has a very large data model, and the MCP that covers it is extensive. For the best results, use a frontier model with a context window of 1M tokens or more — large catalogs, order histories, and multi-step workflows all benefit from the agent being able to hold more of Centra in view at once.
The agent is aware of what Centra tools it has access to, so if you wonder what your agent can do in Centra, you can just ask it.
